Surviving the Holiday Nom-FEST!

HOLIDAYS equate to FESTIVITIES, FOOD, FAMILY, AND FUN.

From festive decorations and tables full of succulent food, and treats baked with grandma's love ... sensory overload would be more appropriate!!!

Food has become an outward gesture of love, connection, and nurture.  Turkey centerpieces with pies, pies, and more pies are served amongst each other, smiles on a platter.

Food averts us in the moment, to enjoy our surroundings with those we love.  It seems that the gateway to connection is through the mouth: a palate that triggers childhood memories, a source of infantile pleasure that keeps us warm and full, literally, comforting our soul.

Who really chooses to think about calories, or the fat content ...

I'm sure the health conscious or those with diagnosed health problems do take that into consideration, but my point is, BEING PRESENT, and enjoying what is transpiring without any self-fulling thoughts.

So how do we maintain BALANCE during these holidays where there seems to be temptation placed upon every dish?

1) You can always offer your own platter of love.  This way you have something that appeases the health conscious part of you, as well as sharing your version of nourishment to your loved ones.

2) Opt for whatever you would like to eat, but be MINDFUL of how much you are eating.  ***Take your time to chew, savor each bite, and thoroughly enjoy the meal!***

3) Engage in conversation and laughter!

4) Enjoy your surroundings and LET GO!

Acknowledge the love emitted from family, friends, the food, and the atmosphere.  Embrace it all and the food, neither labeled good nor bad, will become one with the experience.  Thus, enjoy it!

***When the festivities are over, continue nurturing that love, give your digestion a break, and JUICE!***

Fixation is a disease that manifests in many ways.  We can't be fixated on food, or any substance for happiness and health.  It's all about the mind-body connection, being mindful, being present and conscious of the choices we make, and nurturing the love within so we can allow it to spill upon others!

Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

How to Get Rid of Your Problems in an Instant: Step Out of Your Bubble and Help Someone!

I was inspired to write this post when a situation occurred the other day, and it struck me with such a feel-good lesson.

I was chatting on the phone with a friend, pouring my heart out to her about the complications I was going through.  At the height of emotional overload, I just stopped.  I shut up and I asked her how she was doing.  She was also going through a rough patch and I set my problems aside to listen to her.  I allowed her to speak without interruption, and let her stand on the soapbox.  Not once did I allow my own problems to barge through and disengage.  And you know what, the emotions I had initially felt subsided almost completely.

How did that happen?  I was completely distraught, or so I thought.  Little did I know, but I WAS CONSCIOUS ENOUGH AND AWARE THAT SHE NEEDED SOMEONEI CHOSE to be PRESENT for her and I took the opportunity to HELP her.

***Sometimes stepping out of your own world and giving to others is the solution.***

I remember encouraging her to be strong and that it's ok to feel the way she does.  I supported her and let her know she's not alone with her feelings.  It brought me out of my own sadness and I didn't even realize it initially.  She asked me if I was listening to what I was saying.  How motivational and passionate I was, everything I already knew on how to solve my own problems and SHE WAS RIGHT.

I stepped out of my world so I could help someone else.  It was the best decision I had made the whole day.  Try it sometime ... Do good deeds for someone, a loved one, a friend, or a stranger, and witness the beautiful feeling that comes from it.
